Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a global score of 78.7, which is just a bit better than the Xperia XZ1's general score of 78.3. Even being the best we compare here, it must be told that it's also a just a little bit thicker and a little bit heavier cellphone. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro's processor is very similar to Xperia XZ1's processor, and although the Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a greater amount of RAM, they both have the same number of cores.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with a bit sharper display than Xperia XZ1, because it has a higher resolution of 1440 x 2560px, a little bit larger screen and more pixels per inch of display. The Sony Xperia XZ1 features a little bit better camera than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have the same video frame rate and the same 3840x2160 video quality, the Sony Xperia XZ1 also has a camera in the back with a lot better 19 mega pixels resolution, a bigger aperture to take better photography in poorly lited situations and a much bigger back-facing camera sensor capturing more light and vivid colors.
Xperia XZ1 counts with a much better memory to install applications and games than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, because although it has 0 less internal memory, it also counts with an external memory slot that supports up to 1,95 TB. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with a superior battery performance than Sony Xperia XZ1, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity instead of 2700mAh.
Although Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a better device, it is a little more expensive than Xperia XZ1, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as Xperia XZ1. If you are trying to save some dollars, you can buy the Xperia XZ1, and give up some specs and features, but you'll get the most with your budget.
