Comparison review

The Samsung Galaxy Note9 is much better than the Sony Xperia Z3, getting a score of 87.1 against 77.3. The Samsung Galaxy Note9 construction has the same thickness than Sony Xperia Z3, but it's heavier. The Galaxy Note9 counts with a little better performance than Xperia Z3, because although it has doesn't have a graphics co-processor, it also counts with more RAM and a higher number of faster cores.

Sony Xperia Z3 counts with a better display than Galaxy Note9, although it has a little lower display pixel density, a lot lower 1920 x 1080 resolution and a little smaller screen. The Xperia Z3 features just a bit better camera than Samsung Galaxy Note9, because although it has a much smaller aperture which is not so good for shooting photographs or videos in low light environments and slower video frame rates, and they both have the same 3840x2160 video definition, the Xperia Z3 also counts with a larger sensor taking more light and vivid colors and a back facing camera with much more MP.

Samsung Galaxy Note9 has much more storage capacity for apps and games than Xperia Z3, because it has a slot for external memory cards that allows a maximum of 512 GB and 96 GB more internal storage. The Samsung Galaxy Note9 features longer battery life than Sony Xperia Z3, because it has a 4000mAh battery capacity.

Although Galaxy Note9 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Xperia Z3, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as Xperia Z3. If you prefer to save some dollars, you can buy Xperia Z3, letting go a couple features and specs, but you'll get the most with your budget.
