Both of these devices work with Android OS, but the Sony Xperia Z5 has older 5.1 version while Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has Android 10. Sony Xperia Z5's body is thinner and lighter than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, although it was released many years before.

The Xperia Z5 counts with a bit better processing unit than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, and although they both have the same number of cores and the same RAM amount, the Xperia Z5 also has a GPU. The Sony Xperia Z5 has a sharper display than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, because although it has a quite lower 1920 x 1080 resolution and a quite smaller screen, it also counts with a bit higher pixels density.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 takes a bit better photographs and videos than Xperia Z5, and although they both have the same video frame rate, the same 3840x2160 video resolution and a F1.8 diafragm aperture, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 also has a way more mega-pixels camera in the back and a larger camera sensor shooting higher quality pictures and videos.

The Sony Xperia Z5 counts with just a bit more memory capacity to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, and although they both have exactly the same internal memory capacity, the Sony Xperia Z5 also has a SD memory slot that admits up to 200 GB. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has a much better battery lifetime than Xperia Z5, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity instead of 2900mAh.
