IPad mini 3 has an overall score of 77.5, which is way better than Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7's overall score of 60.8. IPad mini 3's body is newer and thinner, but also a little heavier than Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7. IPad mini 3 comes with iOS 8.x OS, while Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 works with Android 4.2.2 OS.
The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 has a bit better looking screen than iPad mini 3, although it has a quite lower resolution of 1200 x 1920px, a bit smaller screen and a just a little inferior count of pixels per inch of display. The iPad mini 3 counts with a way bigger memory to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7, because it has 64 GB more internal memory capacity.
The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 features a little bit better performance than iPad mini 3, because although it has a 32-bits processor instead of 64-bits and a slower graphics processor working at 450 megahertz, it also counts with a higher amount of RAM and 2 more processing cores. The iPad mini 3 counts with a really longer battery lifetime than Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7.

So if you want that extra specs, you can buy Apple iPad mini 3, but if you don't you can save a couple dollars and get the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7, resigning some features and specifications.
