IPad Air has a global score of 77.9, which is slightly better than iPad mini 3's score of 77.5. Both tablets we are comparing have the same iOS 8.x operating system, so you shouldn't perceive any difference regarding that. The iPad Air is a way heavier tablet than iPad mini 3, but they are 0.3inches thick.
