ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G Review

Score: 53.1 / 100

ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G is a decent portable tablet, featuring a good size 8-inches multi-touch screen, a 1500 MHz Quad-Core CPU, a 2 MP back-facing camera and a 0.3 mega-pixels front camera.

Archos sells this tablet with a Mediatek MT8732 system chip, including an extremely powerful 1500 MHz Quad-Core CPU with only 1 GB of RAM which is a bit poor considering this tablet's awesome processing power. Graphic calculations often uses lots of processing time, so the ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G has an extra ARM Mali-T760 MP2 GPU speeding at 416 megahertz to help the processor with those tasks. This tablet counts with a good 8 GB internal memory and a slot for external memory cards, which allows you to install a couple hundred apps without any trouble.

The ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G only has 7.48" long, but it manages to hold a 8" screen. The ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G has an inspired design, with a thickness of just 0.37". Archos appears to have forgotten about weight optimization in this 9.17 oz portable tablet. This tablet is available only in white color.

Archos packed this device with a nice 8-inches display, and a 1280 x 800 resolution, which makes everything look quite good. This display uses IPS LCD capacitive technology, and is multi-touch enabled.

This tablet is equipped with two cameras, a 2 mega-pixels back facing camera and a 0.3 mega-pixels front camera. This tablet device also features flash.

The ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G comes with a big capacity 3600 mAh Li-Polymer non-removable battery providing the ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G a marvelous battery duration. An issue to take into consideration is that this tablet's battery is not removable so you can't buy a new battery when it starts to have trouble holding its charge, even though with such a big battery you will probably replace this tablet before that becomes an issue.

This tablet has Wi-Fi connection (but it can't provide it to other devices acting as a hotspot), LTE 4G high speed connection and also HSPA+ data connection, which is a slower 4G technology and fast 3G connectivity, supported by HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS and EDGE technologies. This tablet comes with 2 Micro SIM cards so it is able to work with two different phone numbers.

The ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G also features a few interesting characteristics like Bluetooth and GPS Localization, and lots of sensors like Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer and Compass.

This tablet is very expensive considering it is priced 249 dollars, while some similar devices can be found for much less money. If you will use it as a gaming tablet, this tablet is probably the correct option for you.
