The Xperia 1 is much better than HTC U Play, getting an 82.6 score against 73.5. The Xperia 1 body is noticeably newer, but just a little thicker and heavier than HTC U Play. Xperia 1 has a much better display than HTC U Play, because it has a way better resolution of 1644 x 3840, a much greater pixels amount per display inch and a larger display.
Xperia 1 has a better memory to install applications and games than HTC U Play, because although it has a slot for SD memory cards that allows a maximum of 512 GB against 1,95 TB, it also counts with 96 GB more internal storage capacity. Xperia 1 features a little bit better performance than HTC U Play, and although they both have a Octa-Core processing unit, the Xperia 1 also has 3 GB more RAM.
Sony Xperia 1 has longer battery life than HTC U Play, because it has a 33 percent bigger battery size. The Sony Xperia 1 captures a little bit better pictures and videos than HTC U Play, because although it has a lot less MP resolution back facing camera, it also counts with a way higher video resolution and a larger aperture.
Although Sony Xperia 1 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than HTC U Play, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as HTC U Play. So if you want that extra specs, you can buy the Sony Xperia 1, but if you don't you can save some money and get the HTC U Play, letting go a couple specs and features.
