The Huawei P40 is a bit better than Galaxy A9 (2018), with an 86.4 score against 85.2. The Huawei P40 body is newer and just a bit lighter than the Galaxy A9 (2018)'s, although it's also a bit thicker. The Huawei P40 has a bit sharper screen than Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), because although it has a little smaller screen, it also counts with a little more pixels per inch of screen and a bit higher 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution.
Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) has a much greater storage to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Huawei P40, and although they both have equal internal storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) also has a slot for external memory cards that admits up to 512 GB. Huawei P40 features a bit more powerful processor than Galaxy A9 (2018). Both have the same number of cores and a 6 GB RAM.
The Huawei P40 captures better photos and videos than Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), because although it has a tinier diafragm aperture which is worse for taking pictures and video in poorly lited environments, and they both have the same 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution, the Huawei P40 also counts with faster 60 frames per second video frame rate, a way bigger sensor shooting much better quality videos and pictures and a way better resolution camera in the back.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) has a battery performance that's just as good as the Huawei P40 one.
