The Google Nexus 5 is just a bit better than the Moto Z Play, getting a global score of 76 against 74.4. The Google Nexus 5 body is noticeably lighter than Moto Z Play, but it's thicker and was released 3 years before. Both of these phones have Android OS, but the Google Nexus 5 has an older 4.4.3 version and Moto Z Play has Android 8.0 Oreo.

Google Nexus 5 counts with a brighter display than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has a little bit smaller screen, and they both have an equal 1920 x 1080 resolution, the Google Nexus 5 also counts with a little bit greater count of pixels in each inch in the display. The Google Nexus 5 has a bit faster processing unit than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has 4 lesser cores and 1 GB lesser RAM, it also counts with an additional graphics processor.

Moto Z Play counts with a superior camera than Google Nexus 5, because it has a way more megapixels back facing camera, a larger aperture for better low-light captures and videos and a way better (4K) video resolution.
