The Motorola Moto Z4 has a general score of 79.8, which is slightly better than Motorola Moto Z Play's overall score of 74.4. Both phones in this comparison review include Android OS, but the Motorola Moto Z4 has 10 version and Motorola Moto Z Play has Android 8.0 Oreo version. The Motorola Moto Z4 body weights the same than Motorola Moto Z Play, but it's a bit thicker.

The Moto Z Play and the Moto Z4 feature similar displays, although the Moto Z4 also has a quite higher screen pixel density, a slightly higher resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a larger screen. Motorola Moto Z4 counts with a bigger memory for apps and games than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has a slot for an SD memory card that admits 1,45 TB smaller, it also counts with 96 GB more internal memory.

The Moto Z4 counts with a processing unit that's just as good as Moto Z Play's processing unit, and although the Moto Z4 has a larger amount of RAM memory, they both have 8 processing cores. The Moto Z4 features a bit longer battery performance than Moto Z Play, because it has a 3% larger battery capacity.

The Motorola Moto Z4 takes much clearer photographs and videos than Motorola Moto Z Play, and although they both have the same 3840x2160 video resolution and the same video frame rates, the Motorola Moto Z4 also has a larger aperture to take better captures in low light environments and a much more mega-pixels back camera.

Although Motorola Moto Z4 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as Moto Z Play. So if you need that extra features, you can buy Motorola Moto Z4, but if you don't you can save a couple dollars and get the Moto Z Play, resigning a couple specs and features.
