Comparison review

Xperia 5 is just a bit better than OnePlus 8, with a score of 81 against 76. Although Xperia 5 and OnePlus 8 were released with only a couple of months difference, Xperia 5's construction is a little lighter but also a little thicker than OnePlus 8. OnePlus 8 has a little bit better display than Xperia 5, because although it has a little bit worse screen density and a bit worse resolution of 1080 x 2400px, it also counts with a little larger display.

Xperia 5 and OnePlus 8 feature incredibly similar processors, and although the Xperia 5 has less RAM memory, they both have a Octa-Core processor. The Sony Xperia 5 has much more storage to store more games and applications than OnePlus 8, and although they both have equal internal storage, the Sony Xperia 5 also has a slot for external memory cards that holds up to 512 GB.

The OnePlus 8 captures greater photographs and videos than Sony Xperia 5, because although it has a tinier camera aperture, and they both have the same video definition, the OnePlus 8 also counts with a lot larger camera sensor providing a way higher image quality, a camera with a lot higher 48 mega pixels resolution and better video frame rate.

The OnePlus 8 has a much longer battery life than Xperia 5, because it has 4300mAh of battery capacity against 3140mAh.

Although Xperia 5 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than OnePlus 8, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the OnePlus 8. So if you need that extra specs, you can buy Xperia 5, else you can save some dollars and buy the OnePlus 8, giving up a couple specifications.
