The Sony Xperia 5 design is way newer than the Galaxy A7's, although it's heavier and notably thicker. The Samsung Galaxy A7 counts with a bit sharper screen than Sony Xperia 5, although it has a bit smaller screen, a just a bit worse count of pixels per inch in the display and a little lower 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The Xperia 5 features a lot bigger memory capacity for apps and games than Samsung Galaxy A7, because it has an external memory card slot that supports a maximum of 512 GB and 128 GB internal storage. Xperia 5 features just a bit better hardware performance than Samsung Galaxy A7, because although it has doesn't have an additional graphics co-processor and a 32-bits processor against 64-bits, and they both have a Octa-Core processor, the Xperia 5 also counts with more RAM memory.

Although Sony Xperia 5 is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than Samsung Galaxy A7, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Samsung Galaxy A7. So if you need that extra specs, you can buy the Sony Xperia 5, else you can save some dollars and buy the Samsung Galaxy A7, resigning a couple specifications.
