Comparison review
Xperia 5 has a global score of 81, which is a bit better than the Huawei P20's 78.1 overall score. Xperia 5's body is newer and a little lighter, but also just a bit thicker than the Huawei P20. The Sony Xperia 5 features just a bit better looking display than Huawei P20, because it has a little higher display pixel density, a slightly better 1080 x 2520px resolution and a quite bigger display.
Xperia 5 counts with a bit more powerful processor than Huawei P20, and although they both have 8 processing cores, the Xperia 5 also has 2 GB more RAM memory. The Huawei P20 has a little bit better camera than Sony Xperia 5, because although it has a smaller aperture which is not recommended for taking images and/or video in poorly lited situations, and they both have a 12 mega pixels back camera, the same (4K) video resolution and the same 30 fps video frame rate, the Huawei P20 also counts with a bigger sensor which offers a higher photo and video quality.
The Sony Xperia 5 counts with a much better memory capacity to install games and applications than Huawei P20, and although they both have exactly the same internal storage, the Sony Xperia 5 also has a SD card slot that allows up to 512 GB. Huawei P20 counts with a bit superior battery life than Xperia 5, because it has 3400mAh of battery capacity against 3140mAh.
Although Sony Xperia 5 is a better device, it is way more expensive than Huawei P20, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as the Huawei P20. So if you need that extra features, you can buy the Sony Xperia 5, otherwise you can save some dollars and buy the Huawei P20, giving up a couple features and specs.
