Comparison review
The Xiaomi Mi 5s is just a bit better than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, getting a score of 76.4 against 74.6. Both of these phones work with Android OS (Operating System), but the Xiaomi Mi 5s has newer 6.0 Marshmallow version and Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has Android 10. The Xiaomi Mi 5s construction is a little thinner and a lot lighter than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, despite of the fact that it was released 3 years before.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 features a little better hardware performance than Xiaomi Mi 5s, because although it has 1 GB less RAM, it also counts with 4 more cores (although slower). The Xiaomi Mi 5s features a bit sharper screen than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, because although it has a little smaller display and a bit worse 1080 x 1920px resolution, it also counts with a quite higher pixel quantity per screen inch.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s has a much bigger storage for games and applications than Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, because although it has no slot for an external memory card, it also counts with 128 GB internal memory capacity. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 shoots much clearer videos and photos than Xiaomi Mi 5s, and although they both have the same 30 frames per second video frame rate and the same 3840x2160 (4K) video quality, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 also has a camera in the back with a way higher 48 MP resolution, a larger camera sensor which provides a better photo and video quality and a larger camera aperture.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 features greater battery performance than Xiaomi Mi 5s, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity instead of 3200mAh.
Although Xiaomi Mi 5s is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as Xiaomi Redmi Note 8. So if you need that extra features, you can buy the Xiaomi Mi 5s, but if you don't you can save some money and get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, giving up a couple specifications.
