Comparison review
Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a general score of 78.7, which is slightly better than the Motorola Moto Z Play's 74.4 global score. Both of these phones come with the same Android 8.0 Oreo OS (operating system), so you shouldn't perceive any difference in that aspect. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro body is a little thicker and a bit heavier than the Motorola Moto Z Play.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro features a bit superior processing unit than Motorola Moto Z Play, and although they both have a Octa-Core processing unit, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has a larger amount of RAM memory. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with a little bit better looking display than Moto Z Play, and although they both have a display of the same size, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has a better display density and a better 1440 x 2560 resolution.
Moto Z Play counts with a much better memory capacity for apps and games than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, because although it has less internal storage, it also counts with an external memory card slot that supports up to 1,95 TB. Motorola Moto Z Play has just a bit better camera than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have the same 30 fps video frame rates and the same 3840x2160 (4K) video quality, the Motorola Moto Z Play also has a back camera with a way better 16 mega pixels resolution and a bigger camera aperture to take better low light captures and videos.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro features just a little better battery performance than Motorola Moto Z Play, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity.
Although Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as Moto Z Play. If you are trying to save some dollars, you can buy the Moto Z Play, giving up a few specs and features, but you will get the most with your budget.
