Motorola Moto Z is just a bit better than the Motorola Moto Z Play, getting a overall score of 74.5 against 74.4. The Motorola Moto Z is a thinner and somewhat lighter phone than Motorola Moto Z Play, even when they were released with only 1 months difference. Both phones in this comparison work with the same Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, so both of them should give you very similar operating system features.

The Motorola Moto Z features just a bit better looking display than Motorola Moto Z Play, and although they both have a display of the same size, the Motorola Moto Z also has a better 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution and a better screen density. The Motorola Moto Z Play features a bit better performance than Moto Z, because although it has a smaller amount of RAM memory, it also counts with a larger number of cores (but slower).

Motorola Moto Z Play counts with a bit better camera than Moto Z, because although it has a tinier aperture, and they both have the same 3840x2160 video definition and the same video frame rates, the Motorola Moto Z Play also counts with a camera with more MP. Moto Z and Moto Z Play have very similar storage for games and applications, both have the same internal storage capacity and a slot for an SD memory card that allows a maximum of 1,95 TB.

The Motorola Moto Z Play counts with better battery duration than Moto Z, because it has a 35% more battery capacity.

Although Motorola Moto Z is a better device, it costs a little more than the Motorola Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as the Motorola Moto Z Play. So if you need that extra specs and features, you can buy the Motorola Moto Z, otherwise you can save some money and get the Motorola Moto Z Play, giving up some specifications.
