Sony Xperia SP Review

Sony Xperia SP is an amazing phone released in March 2013, coming with a 4.6 inches display, an extremely powerful 1.7 GHz Dual-Core CPU, and two cameras, an 8 megapixels back camera and a 0.3 MP front side camera. Is that all? No, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

It seems like Sony forgot about weight optimization in this 5.47 oz cellphone. Sony made the Sony Xperia SP in three colors, black, red and white. This device is just 0.39 inches thick, taking it to the thinnest cellphone's category. This phone is a compact cellphone, taking into consideration it has a 4.6 inches screen and it has just 5.14" long and 2.64" wide.

Sony ships this phone with a great 1.7 GHz Dual-Core CPU, packed into the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960T system chip with only 1 GB of RAM memory which is a little disappointing for such a powerful device. Graphic rendering usually eats a lot of CPU cycles, so the Sony Xperia SP counts with an additional Adreno 320 GPU working at 400 megahertz to help the processor with those tasks. A good feature of this phone is its quite large 8 GB internal storage memory and a slot for SD memory cards, which allows you to store a couple hundred applications without worrying about space.

The Sony Xperia SP has a beautiful 4.6" screen with a 1280 x 720 (HD) resolution, which makes all images and videos look perfect. Its screen uses TFT capacitive technology, and allows multi-touch gestures.

This device includes Wi-Fi connectivity (which can be provided to other devices as a mobile hotspot), LTE 4G fast data connection and also HSPA+ connectivity, a slower 4G network and fast 3G connection type, using HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS and EDGE technologies. This cellphone works with a Micro SIM card for GSM carriers.

This phone is equipped with two cameras, an 8 MP back side camera and a 0.3 mega-pixels front camera. It can also shoot videos in 1920x1080 (Full HD). In addition, this cellphone's camera also features multiple amazing characteristics: auto-focus, flash, face detection shooting, fast burst mode, smile detection shooting, HDR mode and geo tagging.

The Sony Xperia SP also features a couple of useful features like NFC, Bluetooth and GPS Geolocation, and multiple sensors like Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Compass.

This cellphone uses a great 2370 mAh non-replaceable battery, which isn't very promising for a device like this. According to Sony, this phone has an estimated talk time of 10.7 hours and a stand by time of 697 hours. An issue to take into consideration is that the Sony Xperia SP's battery is not removable so you can't change it when it starts to get older, whereas with such a huge battery size you will probably buy a new cellphone before that happens.

The Sony Xperia SP is not a good choice considering it is priced 530 dollars, while other similar cellphones are being sold much cheaper than that.
