The Xperia 5 has a score of 81, which is a bit better than the Motorola Moto Z Play's global score of 74.4. The Xperia 5 construction is newer and just a little lighter, but also somewhat thicker than the Motorola Moto Z Play. Xperia 5 counts with a little bit better hardware performance than Motorola Moto Z Play, and although they both have 8 processing cores, the Xperia 5 also has a higher amount of RAM.

Xperia 5 has a slightly better screen than Motorola Moto Z Play, because it has a bit higher resolution of 1080 x 2520, a just a little greater amount of pixels per inch of screen and a bit larger display. The Sony Xperia 5 has a quite bigger memory to store more apps and games than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has a SD card slot that supports a maximum of 512 GB against 1,95 TB, it also counts with 96 GB more internal memory.

The Motorola Moto Z Play has a bit better battery duration than Sony Xperia 5, because it has a 12 percent bigger battery size. The Xperia 5 captures a bit better photos and videos than Moto Z Play, because although it has a worse (4K) video quality and a back camera with a lot lower resolution, it also counts with a bigger aperture to capture better photography and video in low light situations.

Although Sony Xperia 5 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Moto Z Play. So if you need that extra features and specs, you can buy the Sony Xperia 5, otherwise you can save a couple dollars and get the Moto Z Play, giving up some specifications.
