Motorola Droid Review

(A855) Score: 47.5 / 100

Motorola Droid is a decent device released in October 2009, including a good CPU running at 600 megahertz, a 5 mega-pixels back camera and a medium sized 3.7" display. Let's take a closer view of what this cellphone can do.

Motorola sells the Motorola Droid with a powerful 600 MHz processing unit, bundled in the TI OMAP3430 chip and only 256 MB of RAM memory. Collaborating with graphic rendering, this phone also has a 200 MHz PowerVR SGX530 graphic processing unit.

This phone is quite thick for current standards, with a thickness of 0.54 inches. Motorola didn't put much effort to reduce weight in this 5.96 ounces cellphone, far heavier than other similar phones.

The Motorola Droid has a interesting 854 x 480 3.7" display, which makes it hard to see the pixels that compose the display. This display uses TFT capacitive technology, and allows multi-touch gestures.

This phone only has a 5 MP back camera. This cellphone also captures 720x480 videos at 24 frames per second. Additionally, this cellphone's camera also includes some useful features like auto-focus, flash, geo tagging and digital image stabilization.

The Motorola Droid counts with Wi-Fi capability (but it can't be provided to other devices acting as a hotspot) and 3G connectivity, over EV-DO A technologies. This phone doesn't use a sim card, because it doesn't support GSM networks and it works with CDMA carriers.

This phone also comes with some nice features like Bluetooth (2.1, EDR) and GPS, and multiple sensors like Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer and Compass.

This phone has a 1400 mAh mid capacity Li-Ion battery providing the Motorola Droid with a below average battery life. According to Motorola, the Motorola Droid has a reported talk time of 6.4 hs and a stand by time of 270 hs.

This cellphone costs $ 120, expensive for this type of cellphone.
